Wednesday 17th April, 6 – 7pm: Private guided tour of Tom Jean Webb: A Bark to Blossom at Brooke Benington

We are delighted to extend the invitation to our members to attend a private guided tour of A Bark to Blossom, a solo exhibition of new work by Tom Jean Webb at Brooke Benington’s Fitzrovia gallery at 76 Cleveland Street, London W1T 6NB. The exhibition is on from 8 March - 20 April.

There is a sweeping romantic narrative arc to Tom Jean Webb’s practice of the last twenty years. As a child, he dreamt of the old American West - of folk heroes, wild plains and the setting sun staining the sky pink behind snow-capped mountains. As an artist in London in his twenties, he painted idealised visions of this world, compulsively covering canvas (and his own body) with the images he dreamt of. And then, leaving his old life behind, he committed to the relationship and stepped into the landscape he had obsessed over for so long. Living and working in Texas Webb’s work began to evolve, less focused on a fantasy of an imagined place and more a reflection of a true relationship between himself and the landscape, and a wider interest in the finely balanced relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Tom Jean Webb (b. 1982, Aylesbury) lives and works in Texas and completed a BA in Fine Art at Kingston University. In 2024, Webb will begin his MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London. Recent solo exhibitions include: Inseparable nature of land from itself, Neighborhood Store, Dallas (2023); Fences and beyond, Circle Culture, Hamburg, Germany (2022); Wildflowers, Ivester Contemporary, Austin, Texas (2021); All these horizons, Maestri Gallery, Dallas, Texas (2020); Stories in the sands, Midnight Oil Gallery, Joshua Tree, California (2019).

Members have access to all events in our programme.
