Eurydice towards the Light

  • Shoreditch Arts Club 6 Redchurch Street London, England United Kingdom (map)

Tuesday 16th April, 7 – 10pm: Eurydice towards the Light

From poetry to performance, music to visual storytelling, Eurydice towards the Light is an ode to the mythology of Eurydice, revisited through portraits of modern day women, their voices and stories.

The Greek myth portrays a silenced Eurydice confined in Hades’ Kingdom, waiting on Orpheus to come bring her out of darkness. But Orpheus turns around too soon, and she disappears forever, loving forever, waiting forever.

But what happens if the modern Eurydices find their own way towards the lights, carve a new path and refuse the silence?

They speak, dance, sing, and turn their love into creation.

On stage, a first voice emerges, surrounded by music it starts to tell the rewritten myth. Soon joined by several performers coming along, as they unfold the narrative through their arts, either it is their voice, their movement, their instrument... As the story unfolds from one Eurydice to the next, passing on the burning torch of their heart, they embark the guests alongside their journey towards the light.

Doors open at 7pm – Performance starts at 8pm
