Wednesday 11th October, 10am – 12pm: The World of Gilbert & George Film Screening
Join us during Frieze Week for a screening of the 1981 film "The World of Gilbert & George" in presence of the artist followed by a Q&A with a special guest.
The only feature length film of Gilbert & George sees the artist exploring the bleak urban surroundings of 1980's London. Poetic narration combined with vivid imagery that moves between the startlingly beautiful, the humorous and the absurd.
Since 1968, Gilbert & George have been residents of Spitalfields, East London and, as they say: "Nothing happens in the world that doesn't happen in the East End."
Celebrating and reflecting on their life’s work they have recently opened The Gilbert & George Centre located at 5a Heneage St, London E1 5LJ.
The screening will be followed by an architectural tour of the gallery with the building’s architect Manuel Irsara at 2pm. Reruns of the film will play throughout the day complimented by an interview with Michael Bracewell.
