Take A Sip: Conceptual Cocktails Club

Subverting expectations and embodying balance, the lineup of cocktails that decorate our drinks menu are a reflection of the contemporary, creative nature of the club.

Backdropped by Joey Holder’s aequator, the bustling bar at Shoreditch Arts Club is manned by a talented team of mixologists. As we transition into May, the drinks offering sees an addition of three new cocktails, each a testament of knowledge on beverage artistry practised by each member of the bar team.

The Triad Martini is quickly becoming a favourite amongst our members and guests – an interpretation of a classic drink that has become one of the best known beverages, gaining further popularity from its spotlight in the 007 films franchise. Typically, the martini is made with gin and vermouth, and distinctively garnished one of three ways: with an olive, for savouriness; with a lemon twist, for acidity; or, with a cocktail onion for a briny nuance. The latter variation is known as a Gibson, regarded as the cousin of the martini.

To appreciate the tradition interwoven within this conical glassed beverage, and honour the experimental approach of the bar, the bar team reimagines the cocktail by combining all these components that make it up. The classic lemon and olive garnishes are reconceptualised in the forms of Murcian lemon-infused Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru gin and a Nocellara olive-infused vermouth. To reference the Gibson, the garnish is a cocktail onion dyed a blue shade, an homage to the distinctive Bombay Sapphire gin bottle. The final drink fuses the flavour profiles that are loved into an innovative rendition of the classic martini.

The simple digestif style cocktail, Gerry’s Coffee, is not only a great send-off to dinner, but was also created to honour the importance of relationships built in the local community. Inspired by Gerard, also known as Gerry, one of two founders of Nude Coffee Roasters, the cocktail spotlights their coffee beans that are used in our cafe. Gerry’s status as a valued collaborator at Shoreditch Arts Club is a credit to his expertise and ethical practices at the roastery, sourcing only the finest quality beans from organic farms and working directly with farmers to instil trust and fairness throughout the chain of operations.

To complement the chocolatey decadence of the espresso, Bacardi Caribbean spiced rum injects tropical notes of coconut and pineapple, while the mezcal brings smokiness into the mix. In true Mediterranean fashion, the aromatic and layered digestif can be enjoyed at any time of day, either as a pick-me-up or a wind down to the evening.

Finally, Jaliscan Tea is a shaken drink of Patrón Silver and woody roasted oolong tea, married with notes of citrus from bergamot orange and sweet floral scents from fennel pollen cordial. The cocktail is the embodiment of romance and respecting what’s natural, what grows together goes together being the concept behind the preparation. The refreshingly smooth, earthy cocktail is served over an ice cube, garnished with a lemon wedge to allude to a sunnier springtime that we are all anticipating.
