Monday 15th December, 6 – 8pm: The Gesture of Colour with Tallulah Hutson
What does blue mean to you? Can red have different depths of meaning? Does purple always feel like something in between?
Join emerging artist Tallulah Hutson for a hands-on drawing workshop at Shoreditch Arts Club studying the frictions and synergies of colour and dance. All skill levels are welcomed.
This class will explore how hue and vibrancy influence our interpretations of human gesture in art. Starting with a video reference, we will reflect on how colour and movement combine to create different atmospheres. We will then use a monochrome drawing exercise to isolate human gestures from colour, before using light and projection to reintroduce it. You can explore how your work feels when different colours are cast over it, before choosing which colour to take home and experiment with.
Materials will be provided. Sketchbooks are also encouraged but not essential. General tickets available soon – Shoreditch Arts Club members go free.
Tallulah Hutson is a figurative oil painter whose practice has expanded from portraiture to explorations of the body in movement. As she paints dancing figures in heightened states, Tallulah interrogates contemporary experiences of escapism, transcendence, defiance and despair.
Tallulah was born and raised in London before leaving for Florence, Italy, to train in figure drawing and portraiture at Charles H. Cecil Studios. After 2 years, she returned to London to continue evolving her practice from her studio with The Bomb Factory Art Foundation. Tallulah has been a resident artist with the Foundation since 2021, travelling to New York from October – December 2023 to participate in an 8-week intensive residency. In September 2025, she graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, with a Master’s in Painting.
Tallulah exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London, as a shortlisted artist in the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award 2025 (formerly known as the BP Portrait Award). Her work will tour with the Award to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, from March – September 2026. Her first solo show, Flowers on the underground, was at the Bomb Factory Art Foundation Archway Gallery in September – October 2024. She has exhibited in group shows across London and in New York.
Members have access to all events in our programme.
