Hospitality is the UK’s third‑largest employer, yet the sector is under immense strain from rising costs and increasing taxes. On Tuesday 9 June, @londontheinside and @tebi_os are bringing together leading voices from across the industry, with a focus on independent restaurants, to call on the government to lower VAT for hospitality in line with the European average.

Losing hospitality doesn’t mean doing without some rarefied nice-to-have. It means losing thousands upon thousands of jobs that cannot be replaced by AI. It means losing first jobs - and with them, the opportunity for the next ones too. It means losing culture, community, thriving high streets, and so much more. Losing these things is something that we — and our government — cannot afford to do.
