Wednesday 30th October, 6:30 – 8:30pm: Site & Sound 03 - Trains
Site & Sound is a new event series that explores the relationship between architecture and film. Each session will feature curated clips and short films around a chosen theme, inviting discussion around particular elements of representation and the different techniques employed by filmmakers.
The exploration for physical space and visual representation is far too broad for a single event, so organisers take a piecemeal approach to this rich and fascinating aspect of film production. Themes will examine a multitude of perspectives on architecture and the city, ranging from varying building types to their individual component parts and how these are interpreted by the viewer as they see the world through the lens of the built environment.
‘The third event on Wednesday 30th October will be kindly hosted by the Shoreditch Arts Club and is curated by the journalist Jason Sayer of Architecture Today. A lover of all things locomotion, Jason has decided to take on the theme of Trains, a means of travel that has enjoyed an enduring romance with silver screen. The event will look at how filmmakers have used trains as a cinematic device to define moments of departure, arrival – and everything in between.’
Jason will be joined by Christopher Beanland – a journalist and author who has written about Brutalism, swimming and travel – alongside Samta Nadeem a design curator and writer and Curatorial Director at STIRWorld, a global media company and agency.
