Step Into The Machine by Nina Davies

Working primarily with video, performance, writing and installation, Nina Davies (b.1991) considers current dance phenomena in relation to the wider socio-technical environments from which they emerge. Oscillating between the use of fiction and non-fiction, her work helps build new critical frameworks for engaging with dance practices. Her work has recently been exhibited and shown at Matt’s Gallery, London; Transmediale, AdK, Berlin; Seventeen, London; Pradiauto, Madrid; and, Chemist Gallery, London. Her work has been selected to partake in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2023; Circa x Dazed Class of 2022 and Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival. In 2021 she co-founded Future Artefacts FM with artist Niamh Schmidtke and was awarded an Arts Council Project Grant to produce their 2022 programme and in 2023 they produced a mini-series for Het HEM’s online programme The Couch.

About the Artists of Future Artefacts Screening Programme

This screening event “Artists of Future Artefacts” has been curated by Future Artefacts FM, a speculative fiction radio show.  This 45 minute program includes the works of artists who have been previously featured on the show. Each of these works explores world-building, tools of speculation such as voicing the environment, narrative as a method for presenting research and how thinking about the future can affect our ways of existing in the present.

Future Artefacts FM is a bi-monthly radio talk show produced by artists Nina Davies and Niamh Schmidtke, broadcast through RTM in Thamesmead, SE London since July 2021. Together with music production by Joe Moss and John Trevaskis, they have commissioned speculative audio fiction from over 10 artists, facilitated workshops, and organised live events across London. They have been supported by Arts Council National Lottery funding, the Elephant Trust and are currently producing a commission for the dutch arts organisation, Het HEM.

Members have access to all events in our programme.
