Friday 27th March, 6 – 8pm: AMAKKI presented by Maona

Maona presents a special screening of “Amakki” followed by a Q&A with director Celia Boussebaa at Shoreditch Arts Club, as part of the film’s UK release tour.

“Amakki” (meaning your mother), a lyrical journey through Sidama’s coffee-growing hills, intimately explores the interconnected lives of two women and two children, celebrating the profound moments of love, loss, and resilience that shape the tapestry of motherhood and womanhood.

Guests will enjoy an Ethiopian coffee tasting session to complement the film.

Maona is an organization founded by Tatenda Jamera, a filmmaker and curator and member of Shoreditch Arts Club.

In response to the lack of authentic African stories being exhibited on the big screen, Jamera coined the name "Maona,"meaning "you have seen" in the Shona language from Zimbabwe, reflecting the organisation's passion for allowing others to see and experience African stories through film and art.

Members have access to all events in our programme.
