Casual Readers Club is a storytelling platform and IRL reading community, nourishing reading as a communal practice and celebrating storytelling in all its forms. For their first session at Shoreditch Arts Club, Casual Readers have selected Suckerfish by Ashani Lewis as their Library Pick of July.

Join us to discuss this painful love letter to childishness, innocence and imagination and to interrogate the questions of what we really owe each other. For this one, we'll be joined by the author, Ashani Lewis, to answer all our burning questions, what a treat! Hope you'll join us! 

About the book:
There are women with higher callings than motherhood. And there are their daughters.

Kolia is in her twenties, caring for other people's children and looking for a way out of London's dead-end days. She is not looking to be pulled back into the orbit of her passionate, fiery, vulnerable mother, but she may have no choice.

In Kolia's childhood, her mother loomed large, both saint and celebrity. Now, she will go to any lengths to repair relations with her estranged daughter.
